Midlands 5 East (North), 14 April 2007
Boston 58 - Hamians 14
Arriving at BOSTON in the sunshine and only a gentle breeze ,should have been the springboard for an avalance of Hamians running rugby
Only problem was someone forgot to tell the home team who being their last serious outing of the season and keen to avenge a recent cup upset where definetly out to prove a point.
The score line reflected the fact that better team took the honours on the day . Boston took the game to hamians from the start and by the time the hamians scratch backline found its feet , a well drilled Boston backline had fashioned three scores !
Hamians did claw their way back to be only 24 -14 down at half time and hoped to get to grips with Boston in the second half .
Hamians attcking platform was not damaging the Boston defence and useful territorial advantage could not be gained .
Boston effectively sealed victory with registering the first score of the second half .
As the heat took its toil Boston freshened up their forwards and as hamians chased the game , Boston gleefully took the chance to run from deep and punished hamians slack cover defence .
The day on the pitch was sealed with hamians taking a short kick off recovering the ball to create a try scoring overlapp only for a basic contact skill to allow the ball to be overturned and Boston to exploit the mistake by moving the ball wide to create a score form virtually their own line .
Hamians had come up against a well drilled side who had played together over the season and the enforced changes to the hamians team had not been allowed to gel to compete at the level required on the day . Skipper Leavy thanked the squad for their efforts over the season and reminded them to toast absent friends in the bar and get their heads sorted for next week ....
Hamians had plently of time to reflect on their performance over the season and finishing a respectable third in their first season back in midlands 4 as they delayed their departure from Boston to enjoy one or two beers with their hosts ...
several songs were sung and one or two harmless games partaked in ...
Captain Fantastic 's bar dive unfortunately caused what seemed like the blitz again with shutters being drawn and ARP wardens appearing from behind the bar ...hamians left for once not in disgrace
Darrren the MOD transport got us safely back to Notts , and the answer is 7 NAKED HAMIANS FIT IN A RED TELEPHONE BOX AND YOU CAN CLOSE THE DOOR ...
