Midlands 5 East (North), Sat 6 Jan 2007
Hamians 38 - Uni of Derby 23
Jez Davis Birthday scores two tries , draper doesn't miss a kick
Happy New Year
Derby Uni scored 23 points Hamians replied with 38
Given the students probably had the two fastest people seen at hamians for many a year conceeding two break away tries from poor passes ( when we should have scored ) was not a surprise
The amount of first phase ball and possession gave tries to lamin, phil a and THE GREEK plus one penalty
old habits die hard and with game controled 14 points up ....playground squabblingg was evident ...perhaps it is the privilaged upbringin that some people expect to be weighted upon nd given points by birthright..
unselfish use of the ball , sensible ball retention would have resulted in additional points
the students to be fair ...scavanged and tacklded non stop and never gave in ....with a little direction and more settled gameplan they could become awkward oponents
next week we travel to Bakewell who are the runaway league leaders ....the hamians team narrowly lost by the odd point earlier in the season to them and look forward to resuming hostilities
To those hamins who have never travelled Bakewell is in Derbyshire and is the longest by travel time we play away in the league all year ....
Also there is no motorway link and it involves A roads , roundabouts and traffic lights ....it has been suggested we take a squad of 30 as bechance 15 may arrive somewhere near the time .
By warning we will be leaving promptly on saturday morning .....yes morning means b4 12 noon ....
