Midlands 5 East (North), Sat 11 Nov 2006
Hamians 19 - Bakewell 20
i am late
several reasons
i was so excited at the game i forgot who scored , iasked mikey and he struggled to rememebr
i could be negative , critise , lay the blame at individuls or the refs timekeeping ...but no lets be positive
what a bloody enthrawling game between two exciting sides
they came started strong scored two good scores
we ralied , woke up and played intelligent rugby to dominate the next 65 minutes to put ourselves in a winning position ...they were buried and out of it
they rallied , we gave them a stupid penalty , defended and did not clear danger they scored try with last play of game
they knew they had been lucky ..we knew we had the game won but let them in for soft score ...if the game had continued we would have probably retaken lead but whistle blew ...
we know we can compete with the best in this league but frustrated by our lack of killer instinct to score
credit to supporters of both sides for touchline banter
as a club this would either knock us sideways or stiffen theh resolve
i delayed my words until i was sure of the response
+ve, +ve, +ve is the answer ..training attendance was good players defending their positions and others fighting to get a starting lineup and impress selection
the result that states it all was achieved last night under floodlights at long eaton whrn the South of the River Barbarians an invitation Vets side with Hamians geratrics plus Boots crinklees and a couple of bridgford demonstrated age is no barrier with a memorable 19 -10 victory ....at the end our age range was 17 -57 some mere 40 yrs
Onwards in the league next week away at Derby Uni and a return to winning ways ......
